New Brunswick women's groups demand Ottawa cancel cuts
Canadian Press

Fredericton A coalition of women's groups in New Brunswick is demanding the federal government cancel changes to programs offered by Status of Women Canada.

Rosella Melanson of the New Brunswick Advisory Council on the Status of Women says if funding cannot be used for advocacy and lobbying, some groups won't be able to survive or be effective.

Brenda Murphy of the Urban Core Support Network, which lobbies on behalf of women in poverty, says her group may fold without funding.

Patty Michaud of the New Brunswick Coalition of Transition Houses says her group will be able to operate its homes, but won't be able to lobby for improvements to help battered women.

Federal Status of Women Minister Bev Oda says previous governments talked too much and did too little about improving equality.

She's proposing to use taxpayers' dollars to help women in their daily lives and communities.

At least we had some men standing up for their rights when they protested at the "Domestic Violence" event the GG attended the other day. . . Was glad to see it thats for sure.

Dontcha just love feminazi hypocrisy. They tell women they don't need a man to suport themselves financially, but they themselves need THE man in order to fund their little schemes. Talk about 2 faced.

The whole thing is sick. Women's groups use that government money to fund themselves, not women. Plus, when you add up all the gendered problems in Canada it is men, not women, who have the bigger problems. BAH!

As for the GG, she was speaking on violence against women. Yet, there are 13 cases of male victim violence to every case of female victim. Plus, the GG was not at all interested in battered men. Fix the problem of women's violence towards their husband and we drop child abuse by 10% at minimum. But, to the government (ALL PARTIES) abused children are always preferable to equality including mere males.

first of all, if you are a man in need of help, where do you go?
If you look in the phone book, it's all for women.Men are the bad ones, women are the good ones. Sounds about right to me !
men have no where to turn

Secondly, the GG needs to mind her own business
She is neither a man nor a Canadian and if it wasnt for the former PM she's be living in france with her french husband
for someone who deemed Canada not good enough even though she is a refugee to this land , her majesty certainly has gotten into the role.

Interestingly, some of the best research into battered women and men comes from CANADA! Oh it is not government funded, no party will allow mere males to be researched, but Dewar's work is right up there with Strauss's.

Here's a bit of the work coming from Dewar and his assistants:

This points to a problem we see within the Tories: The men do not stand up and demand that the Tories treat males as fellow human beings to the females; the women do not stand up for their menfolk. That, that is the behavior of a NDP or Liberal, where is the guts, the drive and the demand for truth that one expects of a Tory?

Think about it ...
