Seems he doesn't understand that timing is everything. While we are pressuring NATO allies to join the fight, how could we be saying "come join the fight (but we'll be gone by 2011.... good luck!)".......

Dion wants to confirm a pull out date of 2011. But while McKay is getting NATO allies on board, this is hardly the time to annouce OUR departure date...

McKay is doing a heck of a job by the way.

France: 700 troops. http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/301691
Poland: 2 helicopters http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/301691

Needed are 8 more helicopters and an additional 300 troops.

Not bad.

While the Conservatives are moving forward responsibly, it seems as though Dion still doesn't get it...
And the Germans are still a bunch of douchebags: http://www.theglobeandmail.com.....tory/Front

Dion is not stupid, he is playing to the Canadian public. We all know that politicians are capable of vociferously insisting on one thing, then doing the opposite with a big smile, and an "I always supported this" line on their lips. Also, he could depend on friendly media to help him spin it whatever way he wants, assuming he got elected.

I was listening to "As it Happens" on CBC Radio this afternoon, and the host was interviewing Peter VanLoan. She was doing exactly what you described, parsing and rephrasing Dion's comments, then asking questions. She didn't get anywhere and terminated the brief interview after a little back-and-forth.
