Thought this was worth of attention: Official Taliban Website hosted in US

It seems that these websites are operated by Adil Watanmal on Geocities and Freewebtown. They contain press releases and working contact information for official Taliban spokesmen. This is in violation of US law, and though the providers are responsive to complaints, the more they get, the faster the sites go down. See the above link for details.

im just wondering, couldnt it be said to be a violation of someones freedom of speech/press if we close down sites because they are operated by 'terrorists'? I mean since theoretically the government could label any organization a terrorist organization doesn't the fact they can decide what has to close down or stay up go against basic western principals?

I don't think so - the US is at currently at war with Al Qaeda and the Taliban. I don't see any violation of civil rights here.

Allowing those websites to operate is a source of information that would not be available if they were shut down. Who knows, they might trip up and post something really useful for the intelligence community. I say let them be for all to see.

UPDATE: The websites are down!

Thanks to anyone who assisted. Turns out one of the Taliban sites was being hosted in Canada before it too was shut down. (h/t SDA)
