Sylvania is the leading light bulb maker worldwide, and GE is tops in America. These two companies, together with Dutch-based Royal Phillips Electronics, concede they basically wrote the new light bulb law. It goes without saying that they stand to profit from it at consumer expense.

Won't be long before LED lights are the next big thing. Then we'll get another law banning CFLs because of their mercury...

A law that most likely will be written by the LED manufacturers, for the benefit of LED manufacturers.

Right on.

I bought an LED last year and tried it out. I wasn't too impressed, but the technology is almost there. Give it another 5 years.

Someday, I'd like to see a cost-effective alternative to fluorescents that produce a more natural light. I wonder if that will come from LEDs.

There are some big differences in the colour of CFLs. I'd even had some that looked pink or green.

You have to look at how many lumens they're rated as (the lower, the "warmer"/more yellow" they are).

I have some that you'd swear are incandescent if you're looking only at their light.

Personally, I find the Noma brand to give off the nicest colour.
