This is where you and I probably have a fundamentally different view of web communities in general. There is no rule of law as such. There can only ever be guidelines.
In any case, I think you missed my point (which means I probably didn't make what I meant clear). I am certainly not arguing for chaos, neither am I challenging Craig's right to ban people.

Which is why publicly stating you require an apology is not the way to go.
No one does this in real life, and for good reason.
Better just to tell people it will remain a private matter and until things are resolved, BEAJ is not coming back. This is doubly as important in this situation since BEAJ thinks he is the one who deserves the apology. (Please note, I am not about to take sides since I wasn't there.)
