After watching the debate today I will come out on the record with my prediction for the LPC leadership.
Bob Rae will be chosen as the next LPC leader; followed shortly thereafter with Jack Layton having a series of panic attacks.

| I have been thinking it was Rae for months. He has the best connections to Power corp and Canada's other political elites. |

| I think it'll be Rae, which will be quickly followed by a Tory majority if the CPC plays its cards right. |

Nothing is for certain. Rae has spent the last decade or two repairing his reputation and doing various good works. According to that recent Gandalf poll, Rae actually had more confirmed Ontario support than any other leadership candidate.
You forget the short memory of the Canadian electorate. |

That poll was on his support among LIBERAL MEMBERS, not the general voting public.
My prediction:
Post-First round: Anti-Iggy movement forms
Post-Second Round: Anti-Rae movement forms
Third round: Dion wins. |

| Iggy is done. This race is between Dion and Rae. Rae will win and the NDP will be die. |

I'm with you, Craig... Rae on the second ballot. I don't see the NDP dying off (more's the pity) but I suspect they'll "evolve" either by merger with the Greenies or make like a phoenix and reinvent themselves as harder-line left under a new name like Social Democratic Party or Progressive Democratic Party.

I really don't think Rae will harm the NDP.
Dippers and union activists HATE Rae so I don't see too many leftie votes going to him. Remember, Rae has really written some nasty stuff about the NDP, has become supposedly pro-capitalist, and has even recommended that the market set tuition fees in a report he gave to the Ontario Liberal government.
Plus, the small-C voters will totally be repelled by him due to his past.
In short, the left hates him, and the right hates him. The only thing he has is the "radical centre" ie: Liberals.
I think under Rae the Libs would be decimated. The West won't vote for him. Ontario hates him. He might do okay in Quebec, and maybe hold on to what they have in the atlantic.
Daryll Bricker from Angus Reid said that he could see a "Kim Campbell style defeat" for the Libs under him.
Dion or Kennedy would be the best for the Libs if they want to steal NDP votes. |

Bob Rae will win.
The Liberals will self-destruct.
Stephen Harper will win the Conservatives a slim majority government.
Jack Layton will shave his moustache and the rest of his body hair in a spasm of self-hate.
These are my predictions. I realize some of them went beyond the scope of the thread, but they're all connected. |
