It's not really accurate to say it has no basis in history. The battle actually happened and was verified by archaeology at the site. And for what it's worth, there is near 'concensus' about most of the known facts of the battle. The movie is entertainment, and as such contains historical inaccuracies - but it wouldn't be wrong to claim it was 'based' on a true story.

And I actually managed to see it the other day. It was the best movie I've seen in theatres in a very long time, and absolutely worth the cost. I'll probably see it at least once more in theatre. If you haven't yet, go see it.

Iranian history and heritage has nothing to do with the current Iranian gov't, dude

Dude, anything the Iranian government has done in the past is part of Iranian history and heritage. Sorry to bust your bubble.

I think what Winston is trying to say is that the current administration does not represent what Iran has traditionally stood for. I don't know too much about Iranian history to judge myself but if I'm not mistaken Winston is Iranian so I'll trust his judgement.

Yes you're right. Mullahs do not represent the people of Iran. Indeed the people are also being held hostage by them for far too long... btw I am an Iranian living in Canada!
