Trump Cancels US-North Korea Summit
White House Correspondent
9:47 AM 05/24/2018

President Donald Trump canceled the U.S.-North Korea summit scheduled to take place on June 12, he said in a letter Thursday.

Letter to Chairman Kim Jong Un

The president referenced recent incendiary comments from North Korea about Vice President Mike Pence. “Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate at this time, to have this long planned meeting.

North Korea blasted Pence for recent comments referencing the possibility of dismantling Kim Jong Un’s regime if it refuses to de-nuclearize and referencing its nuclear stockpile. The regime called Pence’s comments “stupid” and “ignorant” and referenced its nuclear weapons capabilities.

Trump replied to North Korea’s threat with one of his own saying “You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used.”

Trump noted that he still hopes to meet Kim Jong Un at some point if their regime agrees to the terms set out by the U.S. and said if he changes his mind that they should not hesitate to reach out. The president thanked the North Koreans for releasing three U.S. hostages detained by the regime under false pretenses.

Is it the "art of the deal" in action -- or is it frittering away a golden opportunity through bumbling incompentence? Your choice!

Time will tell.

not really a surprise , North Korea has never been truthful and its actions always odd . the idea of this summit appeared historic but maybe it was all too good to be true

Not really a surprise ... but it looks like Comrade Kim Il Un blinked!

North Korea Comes Crawling Back: Stresses "Desperate Need" For Summit "Whenever, However"
by Tyler Durden

Update: As if the earlier begging was not enough, it appears Kim wants to make sure that President Trump is aware of his efforts and desire to meet.

Yonhap reports that North Korea's state media said Friday the demolition of its only known nuclear test site has demonstrated its "peace-loving" efforts and pursuit of a "total halt" to nuclear tests.

As we detailed yesterday, North Korea officially demolished the test-site overnight, inviting a number of reporters to witness the event.

And today, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in English.

"The dismantlement of the nuclear test ground is a vivid manifestation of the DPRK government's fixed peace-loving stand to join in the international aspiration and efforts for total halt to the nuclear test and make positive contribution to building a nuclear free world,"

The KCNA added that the demolition of the tunnels and other surrounding facilities, including a communications center, power systems and observation centers, was carried out "completely" and "with transparency."

In a statement issued by state-run Korean Central News Agency, citing Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan, North Korea announced it was willing to sit with the U.S. "whenever, however" through any method to try to resolve the outstanding issues.

Gwan said that whereas President Trump’s announcement to one-sidedly cancel the planned summit is unexpected and very regrettable, "North Korea's goal and will to do everything for peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and mankind remains unchanged, and we are always willing to give time and opportunity to the US side with a big and open mind,” according to the statement. He added that "We express our intent that there is a willingness to sit at any time, in any way to resolve issues" and noted that President Trump's decision to cancel the summit is "not what the world wants" and the summit is necessary to resolve the current hostile bilateral relationship.

It looks to me as if the North Koreans have been caught bluffing ... they've already blown up a nuclear test site to get the meeting back on course. If I were Trump, I'd take that as an apology, and go back to the table and really try and solve their concerns.

Meanwhile, what are 'the watchers' thinking, particularly, next up, in the batter's box ... Iran ... and, no doubt, Putin is watching closely as well.

Mattis Says He "Received Possibly Good News" On N. Korea Summit As Trump Pivots
by Tyler Durden
Fri, 05/25/2018 - 10:31

A day after President Trump declared that the historic summit planned between the US and North Korea had been cancelled, Trump appeared to pull off another pivot on Friday when he kept hopes of a meeting alive, saying that the Singapore meeting may still happen as scheduled on June 12, just hours after North Korea said they are very eager to get back to the negotiating table, and that the only reason for Pyongyang's harsh language was because it was responding to similar language by the US.

"We'll see what happens," Trump told reporters at the White House on his way to Annapolis adding that "it could even be the 12th. We're talking to them now. They very much want to do it. We'd like to do it. We'll see what happens" and then explained his negotiating strategy: "everybody plays games."

It's entirely possible that this gesture has broken some kind of 'bottleneck, and a settlement is actually closer than before. Trump has signalled that he's willing to look at having a 'staged' dismantling of nukes. It's still a negotiation. Trump's gesture underlines that without denuclearization, there can be no deal.

That's just my opinion. I follow Scott Adams on this, at least in a general way.

I have been made to look a fool questioning the Presidents approach to North Korea in the past.

He has earned my benefit of the doubt.

The Singapore Summit is 'on' again!

The Singapore Summit is going ahead on the original date. Preparations are underway. The abrasive Bolton is staying home, and guess what?

Dennis Rodman will be in Singapore for Trump-Kim Summit

NBA turned Kim Jong Un soulmate Dennis Rodman will be in Singapore during President Trump's summit with the North Korean dictator next week, the Post has learned.

"The Worm" will arrive in the country the day before the June 12 sitdown -- and sources say he could even play some kind of role in the negotiations!

"No matter what you may think about his presence. One thing for sure, The ratings will be huge" a source said. "A lot of times in situations that involve complex diplomacy countries like to identify ambassadors of good will and whether you agree with it or not, Dennis Rodman fits the bill." [....]

Can you imagine the effect this is going to have on Kim? Let's face it, Kim is top dog in a prison -- he may be top dog, but he still has to live in a prison.

He's seen glimpses of Beijing from the windows of the Forbidden City -- and I don't think it has a lot of windows. Now he's in fashionable Singapore, fastidiously clean with rich looking women, tremendous food selections, the best of German cars and Swiss hotels -- and room service. Cameras on him, microphones stuck in his face ...

For him, this will be something like Adam must have felt at the moment when he first bit down on the apple! And he knew sin.

Trump is going to put such a hex on this poor hick that it'll make his head spin. He's going to feel so important ... He's going to be such a pain-in-the-ass when he gets home ....like a sophomore daughter returning from a summer in Paris.
