This is a really good video on climate policy. Steyn has contended with these people's claims for a long time, and has probably as close as popular journalism gets to an expertise.

In this, he tells us about a report given by a UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change official -- thats the brain trust of the international climate movement -- which talks about the distributive effects of these plans. To put it tersely, he told a German news outlet: "[W]e redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy." The full comment and source is there, if you hit the "Show More" button. Steyn goes for laughs sometimes, but the essence is there. He is ultimately serious.

If you understand just how literally the UN wants to make itself into a third-world instrument to use as its own power base, a kind of state without a territory that makes vassals of the developed world, you would understand the motivation. Except for China, India, etc. etc. The UN means to carve out a percentage and control the flow of capital to a wide range of capital-starved nations. There would be huge power in such a thing.

That's why the actual climate science is so marginal to the politics of it.

Al Gore saw the potential in his first experience in disaster exploitation, with the Y2K --
remember how airplanes would fall out of the air, and all that?. He became climate disaster marketing's first billionaire!

Does it all suddenly make sense?
