|
|
So yesterday I went to McNally Robinson bookstore to pick up my favorite magazine the Western Standard, the “only” conservative magazine we have in Canada.
I got home and threw the magazine on the kitchen table upside down and I notice an ad on the back of the magazine!
The Ad states:
Minister Flaherty Show us the numbers
Your justification for the Halloween ambush was tax leakage
Minister Flaherty: Where are the numbers?
Canadian investors deserve the facts
Canadian income trusts deserve the facts
Parliament deserves the facts.
The ad has a bunch of angry people looking up at the camera, kind of scary actually...
We all have different feelings on the income trust tax here, but I feel as if this is a blatant attack on our party from our magazine(I say our because I think the vast majority of people that read the Western Standard are also conservatives).
I’m sitting on the fence on this one, it’s an independent magazine but at the same time I read the Western Standard because it is conservative.
How do you feel about this add? Should the Western Standard pull the add and apologize? I am especially curious to know how long term subscribers feel about this. |

The WS is pushing the Conservative Party from the right so that they stick to conservatism. |

The CPC has enough yes men. Why should Mr. Levant et al seek to swell those ranks? |

Conservatism doesn't sell to Canadians so Harper plays the centralist vote; too far left, too undemocratic. If the Western Standard is attacking Harper based on not being right enough then I have to say keep up the good work Western Standard. |

I think Conservative Party members have accepted that we can't win elections if were on the right. That's why Harper has come full circle from the PC's(center right) to reform(right) then back to the center right. I think that conservatives have accepted this reality, the west will always be more right wing then the east but we all know we can't win elections without ontario and quebec.
The Western Standard is a right-wing magazine, but should it really be attacking the most right-wing party we have? |

Seriously, how does it help the party if every possible voice they hear is that of a cheerleader? I do not understand what you are saying at all. |

Good on Ezra for keeping it real. I have no problem with the party trying to capture the centre, so long as it doesn't totally forget it's roots. |
