Don't worry I don't get offended easily, the comment was made half jokingly anyway. I like Jack because he is honest and down to earth. The fact that he is a fellow guitar player helps too, lol. I just find myself agreeing with a lot of what Jack says. I think the NDP old guard is holding him back actually. I believe Jack Layton when he says he would end Cannabis prohibition, and that alone would benefit this country more than any of this reducing the GST crap that plays so well among the crowd with the most money to spend. I think consumption taxes are better than income taxes. The tourism industry ripples and the huge economy boost that would come with legalized cannabis would pay for a lot of the social programs that are currently paid for from our income tax. I am convinced that we could cut everybodies tax rate in half and not cut any programs within 5-10 years of legalization. I'll vote for Jack no matter what party he leads, because I trust that he is a man of his word. The cannabis community will be better organized by the next election and we will be supporting Layton in full force. Harper better change his tune on drug policy if he ever wants to get a majority. Polls consistently show the majority of Canadians support legalization, and quite honestly i bet at least 45-50 % of Canadians use Cannabis at least occasionally so the prohibition is doomed to failure anyways. Why not do the fiscally conservative thing and end prohibition?

let's keep the topic on topic... but I will say this.

It's more of a libertarian thing to do to legalize marijuana... and many libertarians in the conservative camp advocate for a government/state hands-off approach when it comes to drugs, marriage, choice in healthcare, guns etc.

As long as one doesn't violate anyone else's rights, then one should be free to do as they please (even if it is deemed 'harmful' to themselves)
- this is generally what libertarians believe.

All of the topics above are for other threads though... I suppose this one's done since Layton's already received his confidence vote.
