The Fallen - In Memoriam For Those Gone 5 Years
JMG

night before the sky turns red
for those who don't watch
the sky mourns for those who'll go
husband and wife prepare for bed
look at each other and say 'i love'
father and son read together on their bed
mother and daughter share another laugh
brother and sister help each other with math
strangers share their lives
all underneath the mourning sky

the day begins with cloudless sky
prepared for the funeral it is to give
for those who've gone five years ago
they all drive to work ready for the day
then the sound
the resounding sound piercing the blue sky
confusion all around
the occasional worried shrugs
after all it is construction season
but then the smoke
the black inky smoke fills the sky
commuters empty their cars to stare

all across the world
big and little screens flick on
to watch the horror begin
the second plane approaches while all observe
it hits, the explosion fills the air
panic begins
but then so does human virtue
brave men and women whose time have come
step into the fire to search for those
whose day has not yet come
through sweat and blood and many a tear
their work goes on

then one looks up and sees the tower grow nearer
and runs to save the little children near the entrance
the world sits in shock and clocks freeze
to that fateful day, the ninth day
in the eleventh month, two thousandth and first
anno domini

and now, mere five years past
we've seem to all forgotten those who
never return, on that fateful mourn
all instead to point and blame
to bloster and claim that they alone are right
but now should be a time for silence
for those who've five years been gone

may your faces ever be seared upon our short memories
that we may never forget the joy you bring
the life you led
may we never forget
may we always remember
