I would copy parts of it if I could, but the clever bastards won't let that happen. Sorry.
It has to do with the fact that Jay Leno has never been more dominant on TV monologues, and yet he is being eased out. Pried out, more like it. Crowbarred out.
Why? The answer isn't in the article. It's because Jay Leno is trusted by middle America, and his new-found dominance is based on his ability to lay light political zingers on Obama. At a time when all the others stand around like respectful choirboys when the bishop is in the cathedral.
Some invisible bureaucratic force wants to nip this in the bud. Think on that. Normal commercial logic is reversed. They are perfectly willing to let an asset like Leno go into the wilderness, and pass up the bird in the hand. Why?
They want to put a "chill" on politically-aimed humour in the Age of Obama!
This stuff doesn't usually just 'go away'. The media are now essentially owned by half a dozen concentrations of power, big corporate entitites with a hundred interfaces with government. Who knows how this works? But something has changed in the media, and this is an illustration of it.
This is just another 'media-study', aimed at increasing awareness of how much of this is happening, and how it ends up defining our 'reality'. Comments are invited.
