Prime Minister Stephen Harper is in Windsor today to announce Canada and Michigan have agreed on a new international crossing between the southwestern Ontario city and Detroit.

The new span is expected to cost $1 billion, and should alleviate border congestion and expedite shipping across North America's busiest border crossing.

It's something Harper's two predecessors could not accomplish.

In 2002, Jean Chrétien announced $300 million for a new bridge but it never got off the ground.

Two years later, Chrétien's successor, Paul Martin, vowed to "fix the border" during his term as prime minister. He didn't.

HARPER DIDN'T HAVE TO INCREASE THE DEFICIT FOR THE BRIDGE

If Canadians had elected a genuine small-c fiscal conservative the private
sector would be building this bridge rather than our CINO PM increasing the
$25 billion deficit and the $575 billion debt.

No consideration for (1) economic necessity or (2) the fact that it will be repaid from tolls?
